Naturopathic medicine emphasizes prevention, treatment, and optimal
health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that treat underlying causes instead of just symptoms. Naturopathic medicine focuses on holistic, proactive prevention and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment.
Currently, 19 states, the District of Columbia, and the United States territories of Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands have licensing or regulation laws for naturopathic doctors. In these states, naturopathic doctors are required to graduate from an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical school and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination (NPLEX) in order to receive a license.
Naturopathic medicine has a growing list of studies, publications, news, and research that demonstrates the efficacy of naturopathic treatments, and the positive impact naturopathic physicians can make on the full-body health, wellness, and longevity of patients suffering from a variety of symptoms and diseases.
